What is Macrame?

Macrame is a Bohemian art of using cords, ropes and strings, which are knotted and hand crafted in various ways to bring out a pattern having decorative and functional designs.
It has been evolved from ancient roots to a modern day favourite. It advocates sustainable living by the use of alternative home decors and other home utility products which are environment friendly.
To make these designs all you need are ropes / cords, a sturdy surface to fix the anchor which could be a wooden dowel, ring, dog hook etc to hold the cords, some clips to have a better grip of the work, some beads to beautify the product.
The cords can range in thickness from 0.5 mm to 5mm the designing produces a lacy texture to bold patterns with adorable designs and elegance.
Cotton cords which are natural eco-friendly, biodegradable are often used to promote a pollution free and sustainable living.
